GIN 2023 Pre-Conference Course Registration

GIN 2023 is pleased to present two pre-conference courses, now available to book. The below courses will take place on Tuesday 19th September.

Please select which course you would like to attend followed by the correct registration type.

Course 1 - Involving patients and consumers in guidelines: a workshop of GIN PUBLIC

Aims and objectives of the course:

Involving patients and/or consumers is considered a quality criterion for guideline development: the GIN standards and AGREE II reflect this.  But for many guideline developers, successful involvement remains a challenge: Where to find patients and/or consumers? How to train them? How to deal with conflicts of interest? What methods of engagement work well beyond membership of a guideline development group? This workshop aims at providing practical support and sharing international experience to facilitate successful patient or consumer involvement for guideline developers. The workshop will build on the advice contained in the GIN Public Toolkit.

How does the course relate to GIN’s overall purpose:

Clinical guidelines are typically written primarily by clinicians for clinicians. However, strategies for involving patients or consumers in the development of clinical, public health and social care guidelines now assure that the experience, views, and preferences of people with lived experience are considered by guideline development groups. Successful patient or consumer involvement can improve the quality and acceptability of guidelines with recommendations that support individual decision making as well as reflecting population-based evidence.

Course 3 - Using technology to efficiently update and adapt guidelines

Aims and objectives of the course:

  • Learn the basic principles used in the application of technology to facilitate guideline content modification.
  • Learn how efficient guideline content modification can be applied to workflows of updating guidelines and guideline adaptation.
  • Use open tools to update or adapt a guideline (applied to your own guideline if shared ahead in structured format).

How the course relates to GIN’s overall purpose:

Efficient tools for updating and adapting guidelines will advance efforts for many GIN members and multiple GIN Work Groups (Tech, Adaptation, Updating), and application of such tools to guideline content in a GIN Library could advance GIN’s role in content networking in addition to the people networking.
