Abstract

Symposium 9: Diagnostic pitfalls in Skin Pathology (trainees) II
Wednesday, Jun 19, 2024
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Speaker Dr Nick Tiffin, St George’s University of London/Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust

This hour-long talk aims to comprehensively cover the major diagnostic challenges in dermatopathology. Most departments receive relatively large volumes of skin cases, and whilst the majority are relatively straightforward, a small percentage will present traps for the unwary, potentially resulting in harm through over or under treatment of patients. The talk aims to describe how to avoid serious errors in the areas of melanocytic, soft tissue and adnexal cutaneous neoplasms. Pitfalls in non-neoplastic skin disease will also be included. The talk will draw on sources in the literature as well as the speaker’s personal experience from reporting dermatopathology in two major centres in the UK.
