Research and Development are key to the evolution of livestock nutrition both in terms of understanding the fundamentals of nutrition and producing feeding strategies and feed products to improve livestock performance. In today’s world we need to look at livestock performance both in terms of absolute performance and the environmental impact of the livestock system. This session will focus on how the animal feed industry uses and relates to different types of research. From large animal trials and cutting-edge DNA technology at research facilities through to on farm trials and the use of big data and meta-analysis. The feed industry has established a number of research solutions to help develop new feeding strategies and feed products. The type of research used is driven by a number if factors including budgetary, regulatory and the commercial implications and outcomes and the stage of product development from idea screening to pre-launch data generation.
