Enhancing Guideline Development: Interactive Workshop on Integrating Resource Use and Costs

Abstract

Background: Incorporating data on resource use and costs (RUC) into health guidelines presents significant challenges, particularly across diverse healthcare settings. Effective integration of RUC data is crucial for developing comprehensive, evidence-based, and applicable guidelines. However, practical steps for achieving this remain unclear.

Objective: To facilitate an interactive discussion on potential steps for integrating RUC data into guideline development, encouraging participants to share experiences and insights while analysing real-world examples.

Format:
Introduction: Brief presentation of challenges in incorporating RUC data into guidelines and explanation of structured facilitation techniques used.
Idea Generation: Participants will individually write steps for incorporating RUC data using a digital Brainwriting platform. This method ensures all ideas are captured without group influence. A Time-Boxing technique ensures clarity in idea-sharing.
Clustering and Prioritization: Notes will be collaboratively grouped to identify common themes. Participants will vote on key steps for in-depth discussion.
Focused Discussions: Moderators will present examples of RUC integration. Participants will be divided into groups to analyze the selected steps using a Refined SWOT Approach (pros, cons, missed opportunities, and acquired strengths) and share insights.
Plenary Session & Wrap-Up: Group representatives will report key points, summarize insights, and identify next steps for further exploration.

The discussion focuses on strategies for integrating RUC data into guidelines, leveraging real-world examples and participant input. It aims to enhance creativity through structured facilitation and strengthen the research network. Identifying potential barriers and facilitators in incorporating RUC data for selected steps lays the groundwork for future discussions and research.
