Biography

Bernardo Sousa-Pinto (MD, PhD) is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (Porto, Portugal). He obtained his Medical Degree in 2016, and he has completed his PhD in Clinical and Health Services Research in 2019, and his Habilitation in Health Data Sciences in 2025. His main methodological fields of interest are evidence synthesis, health economic evaluation studies, data science, and guidelines and health decision-making. Bernardo is a member of the GRADE Working Group, being the coordinator of the GRADE Portugal Network and being particularly active in the GRADE Artificial Intelligence and Planetary Health project groups. He has participated in the coordination of the Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA) 2024-2025 guidelines and he is a member of the Methodological Committee of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI). Bernardo has contributed to more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications and 10 R packages and interactive web resources.

Biography

Dr Melissa Bond is a Research Fellow at the EPPI Centre (University College London) and the National Institute of Teaching, as well as an Adjunct Associate Professor in Qualitative Evidence Synthesis at the University of Stavanger. Her research currently focuses primarily on evaluating the use of digital tools such as machine learning and large language models, to help optimise evidence synthesis workflows, as well as improving evidence synthesis methods and researcher capacity. Alongside this, Melissa also conducts research in initial teacher education and professional development, as well as digital learning, such as the use of AI for teaching and learning. She has been ranked in the World’s top 2% Scientists List for the past three years, and is currently ranked #385 in Education globally. She has also recently been awarded the AECT ETR&D Outstanding Journal Award and a High Impact Award 2024 from the International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education (ETHE). Melissa is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Review of Education journal, an editorial board member of the Nordic Journal of Systematic Reviews in Education, a member of the Society for Research Synthesis Methodology and the Center for Open Education Research, and on the International Advisory Board of ETHE.
