INTEGRAL AND CONTEXTUAL APPROACH TO TREATMENT OF COMPLEX PTSD
Symposium Outline
This symposium highlights integrative approaches to treating complex PTSD, focusing on families and intergenerational trauma. Each practice-based presentation underscores the importance of a holistic framework in trauma care. The first presentation explores how combining mental health care, social services, and community support is essential for multi-stressed families facing issues like poverty and unemployment. The second presentation delves into the intergenerational transmission of trauma caused by systemic racism and colonial histories, emphasizing the need for culturally competent care. The third presentation demonstrates how EMDR can be applied within family therapy to address both individual trauma and broader family dynamics, promoting healing on both personal and systemic levels. The final presentation highlights the power of Art Therapy in helping diverse populations express and process trauma through creative means, fostering emotional healing and resilience. Together, these presentations demonstrate the effectiveness of an integrative, multidimensional approach to treating complex PTSD.
