Overview
Scientific and medical advances rely on innovative ideas. But having an idea is only the start of the process, the innovator needs to demonstrate that their idea is effective and worthy of wider adoption, and it is also essential to make it commercially attractive. In this session, we will hear from four experts in innovation and commercialisation. Mike Rutter will describe how he developed airway stents and balloons, Olive O'Driscoll will talk about taking a ventilation tube insertion idea from conception to market, Romain Luscan will talk about his experiences of dealing with tonsillectomy wand supply change challenges, and Tamsin Brown will describe development of the Hear Glue Ear app. Once the experts have spoken, we will have six people pitching their innovative idea to our experts, trying to convince them why their idea is the most innovative one. The six pitches range from surgical devices to apps. The innovation experts will provide general guidance on how to develop an innovative idea, and the person with the best pitch will win an award. The session will be valuable to anyone who is interested in innovation, commercialisation, and entrepreneurship, and particularly useful to those with a budding idea that they are thinking of developing.
